The Murder, She Wrote book series has run for over four decades, producing eighty novels based on the beloved television show. Jessica Fletcher, the mystery novelist from Cabot Cove, Maine, travels the world solving murders wherever she goes. The books began in 1985 with The Murder of Sherlock Holmes and Hooray for Homicide, and new entries continue to appear through 2026.
Donald Bain was the primary author for most of the series, but the books have involved multiple writers over the years. The series outlived both the TV show (which ended in 1996) and Bain himself, with new authors carrying on the Jessica Fletcher tradition. Each book is a standalone mystery set in a different location, making the series accessible to new readers at any point.
