The Mr. Pusskins series by Sam Lloyd stars a very spoiled cat and his patient owner, Emily. In the first book, Mr. Pusskins: A Love Story, the ungrateful feline runs away to find a more exciting life, only to discover that home was where he wanted to be all along. The book won the Children’s Book Award in 2007 and introduced a character that became one of Lloyd’s most recognizable creations.
The series grew to include seven books total, mixing story-driven picture books like Mr. Pusskins Best in Show with concept books that use the character to teach colours, numbers, opposites, and feelings. Mr. Pusskins’ grumpy expressions and Emily’s cheerful persistence make the books funny for adults as well as small children. The series ran from 2006 to 2009.
