Miss Dimple Kilpatrick is a first-grade teacher in the small town of Elderberry, Georgia, during the early 1940s. She has taught there for so long that most of the adults in town were once her students. When trouble finds its way to Elderberry, Miss Dimple’s sharp mind and knowledge of local history make her a natural, if unofficial, detective.
The five books in this series were published between 2010 and 2016. Mignon F. Ballard uses the World War II setting to add depth to what might otherwise be standard cozy mystery plots. Rationing, war bonds, and the fear of bad news from overseas run through the background of every story. The last book in the series, Miss Dimple and the Slightly Bewildered Angel, brings Augusta Goodnight into the Miss Dimple world for a crossover.
