The Millennium Trilogy begins with journalist Mikael Blomkvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander investigating a decades-old disappearance. Stieg Larsson died of a heart attack in 2004, aged 50, before seeing his work become a global phenomenon. The books sold over 80 million copies worldwide and were adapted into multiple films and a Swedish TV series.
Lisbeth Salander is one of the most distinctive protagonists in modern thriller fiction. She’s a brilliant but troubled computer hacker with a traumatic past. Her relationship with Blomkvist evolves through the series, from wary allies to uneasy partners in fight against deeply corrupt individuals and institutions.
David Lagercrantz continued the series from 2015-2019, and Karin Smirnoff took over in 2022. The later books explore new territories beyond Sweden while maintaining the core of what made Larsson’s work compelling: corporate malfeasance, government corruption, and individuals fighting back against systems designed to crush them.
