The Michele Ferrara series by Michele Ferrera (pen name of Michele Giuttari) follows Chief Superintendent Michele Ferrara of the Florence police as he investigates crimes across Tuscany and beyond. Giuttari was himself the head of the Florence Police Squad, and his firsthand experience gives the books an authentic feel that sets them apart from most crime fiction.
The series begins with A Florentine Death (2004) and runs through seven novels to Death Under a Tuscan Sun (2015). Early entries like A Death in Tuscany stay close to Florence, while later books such as A Death In Calabria and The Death Of A Mafia Don expand the scope to include organized crime and political corruption. Reading in publication order is recommended, as Ferrara’s personal life and professional relationships develop throughout the series.
