Michael Stanley is the pen name of Michael Sears and Stanley Trollip, two South African-born friends who write crime fiction together. They are best known for the Detective Kubu series, set in Botswana, which has won praise for its vivid African settings and its likable investigator. Their anthology contributions include five multi-author crime collections published between 2009 and 2018.
Once Upon a Crime (2009) is a collection of murder, mayhem, and suspense stories. Crimespree Magazine #52 (2013) is an issue of the well-known crime fiction magazine. Sunshine Noir (2016) collects noir fiction set in sunny locations. The CWA Anthology of Short Stories: Mystery Tour (2017) is a Crime Writers’ Association collection, and Ten Year Stretch (2018) gathers stories from Poisoned Pen Press authors celebrating the publisher’s decade.
These anthologies give readers a chance to sample the Michael Stanley writing partnership at shorter length, alongside other crime fiction authors. For readers who already enjoy the Detective Kubu novels, the short stories offer a different format from the same writing duo.
