The Menagerie (2013) begins when sixth-grader Logan Wilde moves to Xanadu, Wyoming, and stumbles across a secret facility where mythical creatures are kept hidden from the outside world. Six griffin cubs have escaped, and Logan teams up with Zoe Kahn, whose family runs the Menagerie, to find them before they are discovered by ordinary people. The Kahns have protected the creatures for generations, but the facility is under constant threat of being shut down by the shadowy organization that oversees all mythical creature sanctuaries.
Dragon on Trial (2014) puts the Menagerie in danger when a dragon is accused of attacking a kraken, and Krakens and Lies (2015) takes Logan and Zoe into the water enclosures when a kraken goes missing. Sutherland co-wrote the series with her husband, and the books mix humor, mystery, and creature lore into a fast-paced adventure aimed at readers ages eight to twelve.
