The Mel Pickett series consists of two mysteries featuring a retired Toronto librarian who has moved to rural Ontario. Freed from his old routine, Pickett finds himself pulled into local crime when his curiosity and observational skills prove useful.
Published in 1996 and 2001, the books have a quieter pace than the Charlie Salter novels. The rural Ontario settings and Pickett’s fish-out-of-water status give the series its own distinct character.
