The Meant To Be series is a collaboration between Jasmine Guillory and Disney Hyperion that puts fairy tale structures into contemporary romantic comedy settings. Each book takes a familiar story and reimagines it with modern characters, real-world stakes, and Guillory’s characteristic warmth. The fairy tale connections are loose enough that readers do not need to recognize the source material to enjoy the story, but obvious enough to be part of the fun.
If the Shoe Fits, published in 2021, follows Cindy, a fashion designer who meets a prince during a reality dating show. By the Book (2022) centers on Isabelle, a bookstore employee, and By the Book: A Meant to Be Novel is a companion to that story. Kiss the Girl (2023) and Tangled Up In You (2024) continue the series with Little Mermaid and Rapunzel framings, while Worth Fighting For (2025) closes out the series with a Sleeping Beauty retelling.
All six books can be read independently since each centers on a different couple with no shared cast. The fairy tale premise gives each book a slightly elevated, playful quality compared to Guillory’s Wedding Date series, which is rooted in more straightforward contemporary settings.
