Maureen Peters (1935-2008) was a Welsh historical novelist who wrote well over 100 novels under her own name and several pen names. While she is best known for her historical romances set during the Tudor and medieval periods, she also produced non-fiction work on literary subjects.
Jean Ingelow Victorian Poetess (1972) is a study of Jean Ingelow, a popular 19th-century English poet and novelist who was widely read during her lifetime but fell out of fashion in the 20th century. Peters, who was educated at the University College of North Wales, Bangor, also wrote about the Brontes in her fiction and non-fiction. This scholarly interest in literary history ran alongside her much larger output of historical novels about English royalty.
