The Marvel Universe Vs. series is a set of three graphic novels written by Jonathan Maberry for Marvel Comics. The premise involves a virus that turns the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe into violent, cannibalistic creatures. Marvel Universe vs. the Punisher (2010) launched the concept, showing Frank Castle as one of the few survivors trying to navigate a world full of infected superhumans.
The follow-up volumes, Marvel Universe vs. Wolverine (2011) and Marvel Universe vs. the Avengers (2012), fill in the backstory and show the outbreak from different perspectives. Maberry brought his experience with zombie and horror fiction to these comics, creating a story that fits somewhere between Marvel’s What If? alternate universe tales and his own prose horror work.
