Martin Walker’s non-fiction spans nearly five decades of political and historical writing. His early books cover European politics (The National Front, 1977), media power (Powers of the Press, 1983), and the Soviet Union (The Waking Giant, 1986). His later work turns to American subjects: Clinton: The President They Deserve (1996), America Reborn (2000), and Makers of the American Century (2001).
The Iraq War (2003) was his last major work of political analysis before he shifted primarily to fiction. Bruno’s Cookbook (2023) bridges his non-fiction and fiction careers, collecting recipes from the meals that feature so prominently in the Bruno novels. Walker’s non-fiction background as a journalist and foreign correspondent gives all his writing an authoritative, research-grounded quality.
