The Marriage of Convenience series collects Anne Gracie’s novels built around the popular romance trope where the wedding comes before the love story. The series spans much of her career, from early works like “Injured Innocent” (1986) and “Loving” (1986) through the more recent “Marry in Haste” (2017), “Marry in Scandal” (2018), “Marry in Secret” (2019), and “Marry in Scarlet” (2020).
The “Marry in…” books form the core of the series, each following a couple who weds for reasons other than love and must navigate the gap between social obligation and genuine feeling. Gracie is particularly good at making the transition from arrangement to affection feel natural, and the forced-proximity dynamics of an unexpected marriage give her plenty of material for both humor and emotional tension.
