The Marley picture book series brings the mischievous Labrador from Marley and Me to young readers. Bad Dog, Marley! (2007) launched the series. Subsequent titles include A Very Marley Christmas (2008), Marley Goes to School (2009), and seasonal entries like Trick or Treat, Marley! (2011) and Marley and the Great Easter Egg Hunt (2013).
Many of the fifteen books tie into holidays or special occasions. Christmas Is Coming, Marley (2010) and Marley’s Christmas Pageant (2013) join A Very Marley Christmas as holiday entries, while A Thanksgiving to Remember (2011) covers another season. Others focus on everyday adventures: Marley and the Kittens (2010) puts the big dog next to smaller animals, and Firehouse Dog (2012) takes him on a visit to the local fire station.
John Grogan wrote the adult memoir Marley and Me in 2005, and the picture book spinoffs made the character available to a younger audience. The series ran steadily from 2007 to 2013, with 2010 and 2011 being the most productive years at four books each.
