Mark Kurlansky’s children’s titles adapt the subjects of his adult non-fiction for younger readers. The Cod’s Tale (1997) is a picture book companion to his bestselling Cod. The Story of Salt (2006) does the same for Salt.
The Girl Who Swam to Euskadi (2005) draws on his interest in Basque culture, which also produced his adult book The Basque History of the World. World Without Fish (2011) is a young adult title about the crisis of overfishing and ocean conservation, illustrated with comics and designed to engage younger readers with environmental science.
