Marcia Talley’s short fiction tends to run leaner and meaner than her novels. Where the Hannah Ives books build slowly through community and character, these stories get to the point fast. Many were originally published in mystery magazines and themed anthologies before being collected.
The stories cover familiar Talley territory: domestic tensions, small-town secrets, and ordinary people pushed past their limits. With Love, Marjorie Ann (1999) was among her earliest published fiction. The bulk of the collection dates to 2011, when several stories appeared in quick succession.
