Rick Murcer’s Manny Williams series launched in 2011 when the author self-published three novels in rapid succession. Caribbean Moon, Deceitful Moon, and Emerald Moon sold over 300,000 copies in six months and made Murcer a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author.
The series begins with Manny Williams, a Lansing, Michigan police detective, vacationing on a Caribbean cruise with his wife Louise. When a serial killer starts murdering passengers, Manny gets drawn into the investigation and eventually catches the attention of the FBI. Over the next several books, he joins the Bureau’s Behavioral Analysis Unit and partners with his longtime colleague Sophie Lee on increasingly high-stakes cases across the country. The naming pattern tracks the escalation: three Moon books introduce the characters, three Rain books expand the scope, and three Fire books raise the stakes to counter-terrorism.
Manny is a workaholic detective with sharp instincts and a talent for noticing details that other investigators miss. His banter with Sophie Lee is a consistent thread, and their partnership anchors the series through its location-hopping plots from the Caribbean to Michigan to Las Vegas to the Louisiana bayou. The prequel novella Manny and Sophie: The First One fills in their earliest days working together.
