The Majyk series by Esther M. Friesner is a comedic fantasy trilogy published in 1993 and 1994. The books follow Kendar Gangle, a bumbling student at a wizarding academy who accidentally absorbs a wild magical force called Majyk. With no real training and even less common sense, Kendar stumbles through one disaster after another as he tries to figure out how to use his new powers.
The series is typical of Friesner’s humorous style, playing the conventions of sword-and-sorcery fantasy for laughs. Majyk by Accident opens the story, followed by Majyk by Hook or Crook and Majyk by Design, each sending Kendar into increasingly absurd situations involving rival wizards, magical con artists, and creatures that refuse to cooperate.
