The Mad Max novelizations bring George Miller’s post-apocalyptic film trilogy to the page. Terry Hayes, who co-wrote the screenplays for the second and third films, wrote these adaptations based on the original movies starring Mel Gibson. The three books cover Mad Max (1979), Mad Max 2 (1981), and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985).
Set in a future Australia ravaged by societal collapse and fuel shortages, the stories follow Max Rockatansky, a former police officer turned lone wanderer. The novelizations stick close to the films’ plots but expand on details that the fast-paced movies had to leave out, including more of Max’s internal thoughts and the world-building behind the wasteland setting.
