The Lt. Joe Dante series is Christopher Newman’s main body of work, running ten books from 1986 to 1997. Dante is an NYPD detective, and the series moves through Manhattan’s precincts with each installment. Midtown South, Sixth Precinct, Midtown North, and 19th Precinct all take their titles from the precinct setting.
The series ran consistently through the late 1980s and 1990s, with Newman publishing roughly a book a year. The later entries (Precinct Command, Dead End Game, Killer, Hit and Run) followed Dante up the ranks.
