The Lodero Westerns grew from a piece of Robert Peecher’s own family history. An ancestor of his went west and never came back; years later, an empty trunk arrived at the family home with no explanation. Peecher turned that mystery into the backbone of a four-book Western series. Lodero is a skilled gunfighter who travels across frontier Texas with his Tejano partner, searching for answers about his father’s disappearance while getting drawn into local conflicts along the way.
The series moves through El Paso, the plains around Garrett’s Lost Canyon, and other corners of 1870s Texas. Each book stands on its own as a Western adventure, but the thread of Lodero’s search for his father ties them together. The Noble Widow opens the series, and Return of the Gunfighter closes it out, with The Six-Shooter Capital and The Name of the Horse filling in the middle chapters of the story.
