Lloyd Jones has published three nonfiction books alongside his fiction, each of which reflects his interest in identity, history, and the stories people live inside. Biografi (1993) is the most unusual of the three: a journey to Albania in search of a man whose existence raised questions about performance, power, and survival under a totalitarian regime.
Last Saturday (1994) is a shorter work, while A History of Silence (2013) is a memoir about his family and the silences that shaped it. The title refers to the way certain truths were never spoken across generations, and the book reads as much as a meditation on memory and inheritance as it does a personal history.
These three nonfiction works complement his fiction in showing Jones as a writer drawn to stories with gaps in them, stories where something important has been obscured, forgotten, or deliberately hidden.
