Liam Campbell is an Alaska State Trooper reassigned to the small town of Newenham after a personal and professional crisis. The series begins with Fire and Ice, where Liam arrives at his new posting only to find a body on the tarmac. Each book drops him into a new case while he tries to rebuild his life in a tight-knit fishing community.
The Bristol Bay setting gives these books a different feel from Stabenow’s Kate Shugak mysteries. Newenham is a hub for commercial fishing, and the seasonal rhythms of the industry drive both the economy and the crime. Liam has to balance being an outsider in a town where everyone knows each other with doing his job honestly.
