Grossman’s standalone novels span most of his career. Warp (1997) is a semi-autobiographical debut about a recent college graduate drifting through life in Brooklyn. Codex (2004) is a literary thriller about a banker who gets pulled into a mystery involving a medieval manuscript and an addictive video game.
The Bright Sword (2024) is his most recent novel and his most ambitious standalone work. It reimagines the Arthurian legends from the perspective of a young outsider who arrives at Camelot after Arthur has already fallen. The book was well-received by critics and showed Grossman’s range beyond the contemporary fantasy of The Magicians.
