Leroy A. Peters’ standalone novels represent the beginning of his writing career. Joseph and Asenath (2008) draws from the biblical account of Joseph in Egypt, imagining the relationship between Joseph and his wife. A Different World (2009) followed the next year, offering another standalone story separate from the Western series he would later build his reputation on. These two books are interesting as early works from an author who eventually moved in a very different direction. Peters would not publish his next book until Leroy’s Poems in 2011, and it took until 2021 for his Western fiction career to take off. For readers curious about where Peters started, these standalones provide that context.
