Lawrence Watt-Evans has written eight standalone novels outside his various series. These books cover a wide range of genre fiction, from the genetic engineering science fiction of The Chromosomal Code to the contemporary fantasy of The Rebirth of Wonder, where magic starts creeping into a modern American town.
Split Heirs, co-written with Esther Friesner, is a comic fantasy about switched identities in a royal family. Touched by the Gods is an epic fantasy about a man chosen by prophecy who would rather be left alone. The Spartacus File moves into political thriller territory. Each book shows a different side of Watt-Evans’s interests as a writer.
These standalone novels can be read in any order since none of them share a setting or characters. They are a good way to sample Watt-Evans’s range before committing to one of his longer series.
