Lavie Tidhar’s standalone novels show the full range of his interests and ambitions. Osama (2011) imagines a world where Osama bin Laden is a pulp fiction character, and won the World Fantasy Award. The Violent Century (2013) follows two superhumans through the 20th century’s worst horrors. A Man Lies Dreaming (2014) places a failed Adolf Hitler in 1930s London as a down-on-his-luck private detective.
His more recent standalones include Unholy Land (2018), a reality-bending thriller set in an alternate Jewish homeland in East Africa, The Escapement (2021), a western set in a world made of clowns and circuses, and The Circumference of the World (2023). His range stretches from children’s fiction (Candy, The Candy Mafia) to crime (The Big Blind, The Three Coffin Problem).
