Laura Zigman has published six standalone novels over more than two decades. Animal Husbandry (1997) was her breakthrough, a comic novel about a woman who tries to explain male behavior through animal science. Dating Big Bird (1999) and Her (2002) continued in a similar vein of sharp, funny fiction about women and relationships.
Piece of Work (2006) was her fourth novel. After a fourteen-year gap, Zigman returned with Separation Anxiety (2020), about a woman coping with midlife crises by literally wearing her dog in a baby sling. Small World (2023) is her most recent book.
