Laura Caldwell’s standalone novels span women’s fiction and suspense. Burning The Map (2002) follows a woman traveling through Europe, while Look Closely (2005) and The Good Liar (2007) lean into suspense. The Dog Park (2014) was her final novel.
The early novels have a lighter touch. A Clean Slate (2003) and The Year of Living Famously (2004) explore women navigating major life changes, and The Night I Got Lucky (2005) adds a touch of wish-fulfillment fantasy. The Rome Affair (2006) takes a travel-romance approach. These books were published through Harlequin’s Red Dress Ink and MIRA imprints.
Starting with Look Closely (2005), Caldwell’s solo fiction took a darker turn. The Good Liar (2007) centers on a woman whose life unravels after a suspicious death, and The Dog Park (2014) mixes neighborhood drama with genuine menace. Caldwell was also a practicing attorney, and that legal sensibility shows in how she constructed her suspense plots.
