Krystal Sutherland’s standalone novels range from contemporary YA romance to gothic horror, though all feature young protagonists dealing with something larger than themselves. Our Chemical Hearts (2016) is a quiet, emotional story about first love and loss. A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares (2017) takes a more surreal approach, following a boy whose family seems to be cursed.
House of Hollow (2021) marked a turn toward darker territory, with a story about three ethereal sisters and the creeping strangeness that follows them. The Invocations (2024) continued in that direction, mixing historical witchcraft with a modern serial killer thriller set in London. Each novel is self-contained and can be read independently.
