Harvey’s standalone novels share the warmth and family focus of Peachtree Bluff but each tells a complete, self-contained story. They cover a range of Southern settings and situations: a woman inheriting an old house and the secrets inside it, two sisters reconnecting at a summer camp, a woman choosing between two very different lives. The prose is easy and the emotional stakes are domestic rather than dramatic, which is exactly what draws readers to her.
Starting with Dear Carolina in 2015, she has published a new standalone almost every year. Several have debuted on the New York Times bestseller list. A Happier Life, set partly in historic Beaufort, North Carolina, was one of her most talked-about releases. Beach House Rules and the forthcoming Summer State of Mind continue the run of coastal Southern settings that have become her signature.
