The Knights Templar series marks Turney’s departure from Roman settings into medieval Spain during the Reconquista. Arnau of Valbona, a young knight, swears an oath to protect his murdered lord’s daughter after a violent attack. Their journey takes them into the world of the Templar warrior orders, where the girl discovers an unexpected destiny and Arnau must contend with enemies both outside and within the order.
The six books follow Arnau from the brutal frontier warfare of Aragon and Castile to the holy sites of Jerusalem and back, spanning the later years of the Crusading era. Turney brings the same attention to military detail and political intrigue that marks his Roman fiction, applied to the complex world of medieval religious warfare and the tensions between Christian kingdoms, Muslim emirates, and the military orders that operated between them.
