Kevin G. Summers has appeared in several anthologies outside his solo and collaborative work. The Strange New Worlds volumes, published by Pocket Books, were where he first appeared in print: Strange New Worlds IV in 2001 included his Nebula-nominated story “Isolation Ward 4,” and Strange New Worlds VIII in 2005 contained further Star Trek short fiction. Prophecy and Change, a Deep Space Nine tie-in anthology from 2003, also included his work.
Beyond Star Trek, Summers contributed to A Thousand Faces, a quarterly journal of superhuman fiction, in 2010, and Forging Freedom in 2013, a military science fiction anthology. These appearances show a writer comfortable working across different genre communities and willing to write toward specific anthologies rather than only publishing solo work.
For readers building a complete picture of Summers’ short fiction, these anthologies are worth tracking down. Most are available secondhand and some have ebook editions. The Strange New Worlds volumes in particular contain some of the best fan-era Star Trek short fiction published during that period.
