The Kenneth Aubrey and Patrick Hyde series is one of two major spy fiction sequences by Welsh thriller writer Craig Thomas (1942-2011). Thomas is perhaps best known for Firefox, which Clint Eastwood adapted into a 1982 film, but this series ran longer and covered more ground. It follows Kenneth Aubrey, a veteran British intelligence officer, and his protege Patrick Hyde as they deal with espionage, defection, and geopolitical intrigue during the Cold War.
The series began with Wolfsbane in 1978 and ran through eleven novels to Slipping into Shadow in 1998. Thomas was known for careful research and complex plotting, and the books reflect the shifting politics of the era. Several titles were published under different names in different markets. Thomas himself said it was only with his fourth novel, Snow Falcon, that he truly found his voice as a writer. The series remains a strong example of the techno-thriller genre that flourished during the 1980s.
