Katherine V. Forrest’s standalone novels represent some of her most personal and widely read work. Curious Wine (1983) was her first published novel and became a landmark in lesbian literature. Set during a group vacation at Lake Tahoe, it follows two women who develop an unexpected and intense connection. The book was published by Naiad Press and quickly became one of the press’s bestselling titles.
An Emergence of Green (1986) and Flashpoint (1994) are her other standalone works. An Emergence of Green deals with a woman whose life changes when she meets a neighbor in her Los Angeles apartment complex, while Flashpoint is set against the backdrop of the 1992 Los Angeles riots and explores a relationship under extreme pressure. All three novels share Forrest’s direct, emotionally honest prose style and her interest in how women navigate desire and identity in difficult circumstances.
