Karin Slaughter’s standalone novels give her room to explore stories outside her ongoing series. Martin Misunderstood was a departure into dark comedy, while Cop Town took readers to 1970s Atlanta and its deeply divided police force. Pretty Girls, published in 2015, became one of her biggest sellers with its story of sisters confronting a family tragedy.
False Witness, from 2021, dealt with addiction, legal ethics, and a decades-old crime. These books share Slaughter’s trademark directness about violence and its consequences, but each stands on its own with no prior reading required.
