The Justis Fearsson series is set in modern-day Phoenix, Arizona, and follows Jay Fearsson, a former police detective turned private investigator. Fearsson is a weremyste, meaning he can cast spells, but his power is linked to the phases of the moon. Each full moon brings a “phasing” that chips away at his mental stability, a fate he watched destroy his father before him.
The three books, Spell Blind (2014), His Father’s Eyes (2015), and Shadow’s Blade (2016), combine mystery plots with the ongoing question of how long Fearsson can keep doing his work before the magic costs him his mind. The Phoenix setting gives the series a distinct feel compared to the more common urban fantasy cities.
