The Patch is a 2006 picture book by Justina Chen about a girl who has to wear an eye patch to strengthen a weaker eye. At first self-conscious, she gradually comes to terms with standing out from her classmates and finds her own kind of confidence.
The book shares the themes of appearance and self-acceptance that run through much of Chen’s young adult fiction, adapted here for a younger audience. It was published by Charlesbridge and illustrated by Stacey Schuett.
