The Junie B., First Grader series picks up where the original kindergarten books left off. Junie B. has moved on to first grade, which comes with a new teacher (Mr. Scary, whose name she finds alarming), new classmates, and new problems. The first book, Junie B., First Grader (at Last!), deals with the big adjustment of changing classrooms and discovering she needs glasses.
Barbara Park kept the same first-person voice that made the original series so popular, with Junie B. still narrating everything in her own distinctive style. The books tackle familiar kid experiences like losing a tooth (Toothless Wonder), dealing with cheating (Cheater Pants), and going on a class field trip to the beach (Shipwrecked). The series also includes holiday specials, with Jingle Bells, Batman Smells! covering Christmas and Turkeys We Have Loved and Eaten covering Thanksgiving. Like the kindergarten books, each title stands on its own while building on Junie B.’s growing circle of friends and her ongoing adventures at school.
