Judith Arnopp has contributed to several historical fiction anthologies. Castles, Customs, and Kings (2013) and its second volume (2015) collect essays and fiction about British history, while Not To Be Read Until I Am Dead (2014) takes a different approach to the anthology format.
The Castles, Customs, and Kings anthologies grew out of the English Historical Fiction Authors blog, where Arnopp and other writers shared research and stories about British history. The collections bring together pieces on topics ranging from medieval life to the Tudor period. Arnopp’s contributions draw on the same historical research she uses in her novels.
Not To Be Read Until I Am Dead: And Other Stuff (2014) has a more personal tone. These three anthology appearances complement Arnopp’s thirteen standalone novels and give readers a look at her historical knowledge in a shorter, essay-driven format.
