Lois Lowry’s J.P. Tate books follow the Tate family through three novels published between 1983 and 1990. The 100th Thing About Caroline (1983) introduces the family, Switcharound (1985) sends the kids to spend summer with their father, and Your Move, J.P.! (1990) focuses on the oldest Tate child’s romantic misadventures.
Like the Anastasia Krupnik books, these novels are funny, character-driven stories about the small dramas of family life. Lowry writes kids who are sharp enough to see the absurdity in adult behavior but still young enough to be surprised by it. The series is lighter fare from Lowry, written in the same period as her more serious novels.
