Jonathon King’s standalone novels show the same Florida-based crime writing that made his Max Freeman series popular, but with different characters and storylines. Eye of Vengeance (2006) follows a newspaper photographer who discovers a connection between his published photos and a string of murders. The Styx (2009) and Oooo That Smell (2011) also draw on King’s journalism background and his knowledge of the darker side of life in the Sunshine State.
His most recent standalone, The Sindia Promise (2018), marks his latest published work. Across all four books, King keeps the focus on Florida’s people and places, from small-town crime to coastal corruption. Readers who enjoy the Max Freeman books will find the same careful plotting and atmospheric writing in these standalone titles.
