John Trenhaile published six standalone thrillers between 1989 and 1994, following the conclusion of his two trilogies. Krysalis (1989) deals with a disappearance that leads to Cold War secrets. Acts Of Betrayal (1990) and Blood Rules (1991) continue in the espionage vein, while The Tiger of Desire (1992) returns to the Asian settings of the Simon Young books.
A Means to Evil (1993) and Against All Reason (1994) were Trenhaile’s final published novels. These later books show the author working through variations on the thriller format as the Cold War wound down, shifting focus from East-West rivalry to other forms of international intrigue.
