John L. Plaster’s non-fiction falls into two main categories: the history of SOG operations in Vietnam and the art of military sniping. His SOG books, starting with the 1997 bestseller SOG: Secret Wars of America’s Commandos in Vietnam, were among the first to reveal what happened during these classified missions. Secret Commandos followed in 2004 with more first-person accounts, and SOG: A Photo History added a visual record in 2000.
His sniping books are equally well-known. Ultimate Sniper is used as a reference by military and police marksmen around the world. The History of Sniping and Sharpshooting, Sharpshooting in the Civil War, and Sniping in the Trenches trace the development of precision shooting from its earliest days through World War I. Together, these seven books represent decades of research and personal experience.
