Jodi Picoult’s short stories and novellas were released as individual ebooks between 2013 and 2017. Two of them tie directly into her novel Leaving Time (2014). Where There’s Smoke introduces Serenity Jones, a TV psychic medium whose career starts to unravel after a controversial episode. Larger Than Life follows Alice, an elephant researcher in Africa who rescues an orphaned calf, providing backstory for the central character of Leaving Time.
The Color War (2013) is a standalone story about a young Black boy named Raymond who goes to a Bible camp for inner-city kids and confronts the gap between his world and the mostly white staff. Mermaid (2017) was published as a Kindle in Motion title with animated illustrations, telling the story of a former theme park mermaid performer whose past resurfaces.
