Jo Furniss’s standalone novels explore different corners of the thriller genre. All the Little Children (2017) is a survival story, The Trailing Spouse (2018) is domestic suspense set among expats, The Last to Know (2020) centers on neighborhood secrets, and Dead Mile (2024) is her most recent entry.
All the Little Children puts a mother and a group of children alone in the English countryside after a catastrophic event. The Trailing Spouse takes a different approach, following an expat wife in Singapore who discovers her husband may not be who she thinks he is. Both books place ordinary women in situations where they have to rely on themselves.
The Last to Know shifts the focus to a small community where a series of disappearances raises questions about who can be trusted. Dead Mile (2024) came after a four-year gap and continues Furniss’s interest in suspense driven by location and personal stakes. Each novel works as a standalone, with no shared characters between them.
