The Jesse Stone series started with Robert B. Parker’s Night Passage in 1997 and has grown to thirty books across multiple authors. Jesse Stone is the police chief of Paradise, Massachusetts — a former Los Angeles cop who moved east to escape a failed marriage and a drinking problem. The cases that come to his small town are anything but small, and Stone handles them with the skills of a big-city detective and the vulnerabilities of a man fighting his own nature.
Mike Lupica is among the continuation authors who have written new Jesse Stone novels after Parker’s death. The series has maintained its appeal through its character-driven approach — Stone’s personal struggles matter as much as the crimes he investigates. The Paradise setting gives each book a distinctive New England atmosphere while the recurring characters build depth across the full thirty-book run.
