Jeff Zentner’s standalone novels are YA contemporary fiction, most of them set in the American South. His debut, The Serpent King (2016), established his voice with a story about friendship and ambition in small-town Tennessee. Each book since then has explored different characters and situations, from the grief-driven Goodbye Days to the late-night horror movie antics of Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee.
More recent titles like In the Wild Light, Colton Gentry’s Third Act, and Sunrise Nights show Zentner continuing to write about young people figuring out who they are. His 2026 novel Wayfarers is his latest release. All of these books stand on their own, so readers can pick up any title that catches their interest.
