Jeff VanderMeer’s editorial work spans nearly forty anthologies across a wide range of speculative fiction. His most significant editorial project is The Weird: A Compendium of Strange and Dark Stories (2010), co-edited with Ann VanderMeer, a 1,100-page survey of weird fiction from the early 1900s to the modern era.

His steampunk anthologies, including Steampunk (2008) and Steampunk II: Steampunk Reloaded (2010), helped define and popularize the subgenre in literary fiction. Other notable editorial work includes The Thackery T. Lambshead Pocket Guide to Eccentric & Discredited Diseases (2003), a fictional medical reference that became a cult favorite, and Sisters of the Revolution (2015), which collected feminist speculative fiction. VanderMeer has also contributed stories to anthologies edited by others, including collections focused on Jack Vance, fairy tales, and horror.
