Jane Roberts is primarily known for the Seth Material, the body of channeled non-fiction she produced from 1963 until her death in 1984. But she was also a novelist and poet. Her fiction output was smaller than her non-fiction work, but it shows a different side of her imagination.
The Rebellers, published in 1963, was one of Roberts’ early works of fiction, written before she began the channeling sessions that would define the rest of her career. Emir’s Education in the Proper Use of Magical Powers, published in 1979, is a children’s fantasy about a young character learning to use magic responsibly. Both novels reflect Roberts’ longstanding interest in the nature of consciousness and personal power, themes she explored in much greater depth through the Seth books.
